In this guide, we will be sharing with you the very best brooms for clearing up dog hair from around your home.

If you’ve got a dog, even one that does not shed heavily, you will know that pet hair gets everywhere! It’s notoriously tricky to sweep up, appearing in odd corners and floating along on a draft.

If you have a heavily shedding dog like a Husky, then for several weeks every year, for the shedding season, you will find not just the odd hair, but huge balls of fluff drifting around the house like tumbleweed. If you’ve a dog with dry skin or dandruff, then you can also add skin flakes to your woes.

There are some at-home shedding remedies you can try, but short of keeping your dog in an outdoor kennel, there is little you can do to keep the hair out of your house.

You can either stop noticing it (bear in mind, though, that your visitors will certainly be put off by it!) or you can find a regime of vacuuming and sweeping that works for you. We’ve chosen our best vacuum cleaners for dog hair here, and now it’s the turn of the broom.

If you have the right broom, it will make an enormous difference. Some brooms are like dog-hair magnets and you may be surprised to find that they are even more effective at collecting dog hair than vacuuming, even on carpets!

In this guide we’ll share with you the best brooms for dog hair we’ve found for sweeping up pet hair, and our buyer’s guide will help you to decide what factors to consider when choosing your broom.

Keep reading for a complete guide to buying a broom to help keep your pet’s hair under control.

1. FURemover BroomPopular Choice

FURemover Best Brooms for Dog Hair

View Latest Price

The FURemover Broom is a very popular choice. The many happy customers tell a lot about the quality of this broom. It is one of several we’re reviewing today with rubber bristles. There is something about rubber that attracts pet hair like a magnet, removing it easily from both hard floors and soft pile carpet and this broom uses 100% natural rubber.

The FURemover Broom is double sided. On one side you have the rubber bristles (soft, so they don’t scratch beautiful hardwood floors) and on the other side is a squeegee. The squeegee is great for clearing up spills on tiles, and for cleaning windows and showers, but you can also drag it across the surface of a rug or carpet to bring crumbs, dust, dirt and hair to the surface.

The broom has a 12” head and the handle is adjustable, telescoping between 36 and 60 inches in length. When you’ve finished brushing, you can just wash the bristles in soapy water to clean and refresh your broom.

Pros
  • Telescopic handle for adjustable length
  • 100% rubber bristles
  • Squeegee for extra versatility
  • Use indoors or out
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • Not easy to get under furniture
  • Not so easy at getting into hard to reach corners
  • Some people have commented that the telescopic handle collapses down during use.

2. Bissell Pet Hair BroomEditor’s Choice

Bissell Pet Hair Broom Best Brooms for Dog Hair

View Latest Price

The Bissell Pet Hair Broom is our top choice for keeping your home clean and tidy. At first glance it looks like an ordinary nylon sweeping broom, but then you realize that hidden among the nylon bristles is a row of rubber bristles. Twist the handle to adjust the rubber bristles up or down to change the function of the brush.

Retract the rubber for everyday sweeping, using the nylon bristles to make swift work of your sweeping. With the rubber bristles lowered though, they attract that pet hair, pulling it to the surface of low pile rugs and carpets and gathering it across your hard floors. The bristles are also angled at the side to reach easily into corners.

The adjustable handle is a nice feature, making the broom comfortable for everybody in the family to use.

Pros
  • Angled to reach into corners
  • Adjustable length
  • Rubber bristles as well as nylon
Cons
  • Lower joint on handle seems to be a weak point
  • Quite heavy compared to other brooms we’re looking at

3.  Swiffer Sweeper Dry and Wet MopBest dry mop

Swiffer Sweeper Dry and Wet Mop Best Brooms for Dog Hair

View Latest Price

While technically a mop rather than a broom, we’ve included the Swiffer Dry and Wet Mop as it can be used dry to collect up pet hair on smooth surfaces.

The Swiffer sweeper comes with dry sweeping cloths, grooved and ridged to trap dirt, dust and hair and lock it to the surface. These can be switched for wet cloths, impregnated with cleaning detergents to dissolve the dirt and leave your floors sparklingly clean.

We like the easy-grip handle and the way that the sweeper is connected with a knuckle joint to make it very easy to get under furniture.

Pros
  • Cleans as well as sweeping
  • Just throw away and replace the cloth when it gets dirty
  • Easy-grip handle
  • Knuckle joint to get under the furniture
Cons
  • Refill pads and cloths can soon add up in price
  • Some reviewers have found that the metal handle breaks easily.

4. MR.SIGA Soft Bristle Rubber Broom and SqueegeeBest small bristles

MR.SIGA Soft Bristle Rubber Broom and Squeegee Best Brooms for Dog Hair

View Latest Price

Like the FURemover, the MR.SIGA Soft Bristle Rubber Broom and Squeegee is double-sided. The bristles are TPR Rubber, which keeps its shape well and although firm, is still gentle enough not to scratch and is resistant to both staining and odors.

The rubber brush easily collects dirt and hair and works well on low pile carpets as well as all hard surfaces, appearing to attract the fur almost like a magnet! In addition, the squeegee can safely be used to clean up muddy pawprints or splashes on hardwood or glass without causing scratches.

The powder-coated steel handle extends from 29.5 inches to 57 inches and can be locked into position anywhere in between. Yet at only 12.5 inches wide, it’s easy enough to get into small spaces and to use where there isn’t much floor space.

For best results and longevity, clean your broom with soapy water and allow to air dry before storing in a cool place.

This is an economical and practical broom for all areas.

Pros
  • Telescopic handle for adjustable length
  • 100% rubber bristles
  • Squeegee for extra versatility
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • Not easy to get under furniture
  • Too small to use over large areas
  • Feels a bit flimsy

5. RAVMAG Silicone BroomBest for hard surfaces.

RAVMAG Silicone Broom

View Latest Price

The RAVMAG Silicone Broom is an incredibly tough and durable brush though the single-cast silicone bristles make it soft enough to avoid scratching any floor surface while collecting up dust and hair.

We really love the extra design features such as the adjustable knuckle joint to reach under the furniture and the slanted bristles which mean that you can get close up against the walls to capture those sneaky hairs nestled beneath the skirting. There is also a built-in squeegee edge for spills and splashes.

It’s quite a long broom, with a 55-inch handle, but that means that you have the control to maneuver it easily to the back of small spaces and the 15-inch wide head is large enough to cover a big floor area easily but not so large as to be awkward.

With a feel of quality about it, you just need to give it a quick rinse to clean it and leave it fresh ready for the next use.

Pros
  • Adjustable knuckle joint for easily getting underneath furniture
  • Long handle for good control
  • Covers a wide space with each sweep
  • Soft, non-scratch silicone bristles
  • Angled bristles to get into corners.
Cons
  • Better suited to hard surfaces than carpets

6. Sweepa Rubber BroomBest for carpets

Sweepa Rubber Broom

View Latest Price

The Sweepa Rubber Broom is 100% real rubber. As a rubber broom it is excellent at using electrostatic action to pick up all that hair, lint and other particles from around the house.

One of the great things about rubber brooms is their versatility. They can be used on pretty much any flat surface, from low-pile carpets, through to tile, hardwood and patio – indoors and out.

The built-in squeegee, as well as being used to clean up splashes and muddy puddles on your tile floor, can also be rubbed across the surface of your carpet to bring all sorts of things to the surface ready for removal. You’ll be amazed at what your vacuum has missed. The thicker rubber of the squeegee on the Sweepa makes it better for this than the FURemover.

The rubber head is rigid, and the socket fits snugly around whichever type of broomstick you choose to purchase, which unfortunately is not included with the broom head. However, it is easy to clean and hygienic as well as being 100% hypoallergenic.

Pros
  • Great on carpet due to the thicker rubber
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Made from real rubber
  • Inbuilt squeegee
Cons
  • Head only, you have to buy the broomstick separately
  • Not effective on deep pile carpets – just brushes along the top

7. Fox Trot FurBuster Rubber BroomBest for budget

Fox Trot FurBuster Rubber Broom

View Latest Price

Fox Trot FurBuster Rubber Broom with Squeegee demonstrates that a low budget doesn’t have to mean ineffective cleaning products. This versatile rubber bristled cleaner is super for removing hair from carpets and rugs as well as for sweeping tiles, patios, lino and wood floors.

The squeegee on one side helps to clean up those muddy, wet pawprints or give the wet-room the once over and then you just flip over to gather up and stray hairs.

While the extendable pole makes it comfortable for the whole family to use, adjusting between 30 and 50 inches, you’ll find that the head is not too wide, allowing it to be used in hard to reach and tight spaces.

To clean it after use, you just need to wash it off in soapy water and dry before tucking it away until it’s next use.

Pros
  • Adjustable pole
  • Squeegee edge for versatile use on all surfaces
  • Easy to clean
  • Narrow head for hard to reach places
  • Good for your budget
Cons
  • Works better when being pushed than when pulled towards you, so only effective in one direction.

8. TreeLen Dustpan and Broom for Dog HairBest dustpan and broom set

TreeLen Dustpan and Broom for Dog Hair

View Latest Price

The TreeLen Dustpan and Broom is the only set that we are looking at today. The broom comes with a dustpan with large capacity, both with long handles, so you can sweep up that pet hair without bending.

Unlike most of the brooms we’ve been looking at today, this one does not have rubber/silicone bristles. Instead, the soft bristles fibers are made from recycled plastic bottles. They don’t absorb water and are soft and flexible enough to get right into the corners of your room.

The handle of the broom extends to 52” so you can reach into tricky corners and never have to bend to sweep.

We love the large-capacity pan, which locks into position for easy emptying and then swings into a vertical position to take up less space for storage. The pan also features a comb to brush through the bristles of the broom, removing the debris into the bin. The rubber lip of the dustpan sits flush to the floor to ensure that dust and hair don’t drift through underneath.

Pros
  • Comes with its own long-handled dustpan – no bending required
  • Environmentally friendly with recycled plastic bristles
  • Easy to store with hanging hooks and compact profile
Cons
  • The brush could be a little stiffer – not useful for carpets, hard floors only
  • A bit expensive compared to some of the others

9. Grandi Groom Carpet RakeBest for deep pile carpets

Grandi Groom Carpet Rake

View Latest Price

Not really a broom, the Grandi Groom Carpet Rake is an amazing tool that works right into deep pile carpets, lifting pet hair and loosening embedded dirt ready for vacuuming.

Ideally you use this rake twice. Once, using a push-pull method, before vacuuming to loosen the dirt and lift the pet hair to the surface. The extra-wide 18-inch head helps you to cover a large area quite quickly. After vacuuming, use it again to lift the pile of the carpet and make it look like new.

This versatile tool is very popular with professional carpet cleaners and can even be used on artificial grass!

The nylon teeth of the rake are flexible yet strong, so they can dig deep into the carpet, without snapping when they get snagged. You do need to use a bit of elbow grease to get through the carpet fibers, especially the first time, but it becomes easier when you use it more often.

Pros
  • Gets deep into the fibers of your carpet for a good clean
  • Strong yet flexible
  • Large enough rake head to cover a wide area in a short space of time
  • Grabs the dirt and hair and brings it to the surface of the carpet
Cons
  • Expensive compared to other brooms here
  • Can only be used on deep-pile rugs and carpets, not hard floors or short-pile carpets

Best Broom for Dog Hair Buyer’s Guide 2022

Do you need a special dog hair broom?

A dog hair broom is specially designed to trap and collect pet fur, which will save you a lot of time and effort keeping your home clean and pleasant. It’s much quicker to pull out an appropriate broom and go over the floors in your home than to get out the vacuum cleaner, and you’d be surprised to find that it’s often more effective.

Brush head / Bristles

Most ordinary brooms have nylon bristles. They may move the hair, but they soon drop it again. Dog brooms often have rubber or silicone bristles which attract and keep hold of the fur for you to collect and dispose of.

Other benefits of rubber bristles are that they do not come loose, they are sturdy and easy to clean, they form an interlacing barrier that doesn’t let the dirt or hair pass through.

Ideally you want a broom that is designed to cope with both carpets and wood floors (gentler bristles that won’t damage hardwood floors)

However, if you have a deep-pile carpet, you’ll find that most brushes, whether nylon or rubber, just sweep across the top of the pile, and even vacuum cleaners can’t get in to suck up the detritus lurking in between those soft strands. What you need is a Carpet Rake! Like a garden rake but designed for carpets.

Another thing to bear in mind about the brush-head is the width. In general, the rubber brushes come with a wider head which means they cover more area with each pass, reducing the time taken to sweep the floor, though this does make it harder to get into smaller spaces.

Handle

You need a broom handle that will stand up to the job and not fold over on itself in defeat when tackling carpets and other surfaces with high friction.

You will probably also want to consider the length of your handle. Some are adjustable, which may be helpful if your broom will be used by family members of varying heights. However, this does introduce weakness into the handle at the joins, and some broom reviews mention the adjustable part loosening and collapsing as you brush.

Final Thought on Choosing the Best Broom for Dog Hair

When it comes down to it, your choice of broom will depend on the following:

The space you’re cleaning in.

In a large, open plan area you will be able to choose a brush with a longer head such as the Sweepa Rubber Broom, whereas if you have a smaller space, you may prefer a smaller head brush such as the TreeLen Dustpan and Broom Set or one with a knuckle joint for reaching under furniture Swiffer Dry and Wet Mop or RAVMAG Silicone Broom .

The flooring you have

For a deep pile carpet you would consider a carpet rake such as the Grandi Groom Carpet Rake, for a combination of hard floors and carpets you’ll want a rubber-bristle broom, and perhaps one with an inbuilt squeegee such as the FURemover BroomMR.SIGA Soft Bristle Rubber Broom and Squeegee, or the Fox Trot FurBuster Rubber Broom with Squeegee.

Our personal favorite, and Editor’s Choice today, is the Bissell Pet Hair Broom. We love the combination of the nylon bristles with the adjustable rubber bristles for picking up that pet hair.
